About

I am Mehmet Fide, an embedded systems engineer with more than twenty years of building products that run close to the hardware, from electricity meters to non-destructive testing instruments.

Today I work as a Senior Embedded Linux & Firmware Design Engineer and Project Leader at Proceq (Screening Eagle Technologies) in Zurich, Switzerland. My work covers the full embedded stack: maintaining a custom Yocto-based Linux distribution (security patches, CVEs, SDKs), writing low-level drivers (PCIe/DMA, SPI, I2C, UART, CAN-ISOTP, GPIO), radar and ultrasonic signal processing for flaw detectors and ground-penetrating radar, and the CI/CD pipelines and board bring-up that tie it together.

In 2015 I co-founded Referans Elektrik Sayaçları A.Ş., a TÜBİTAK-supported company building smart meters and laboratory test equipment for Turkey's energy sector, where I worked as Technical Manager leading R&D.

Before that I led hardware and embedded-software teams at Advanced Electronics Company in Riyadh, and I started out in the metering industry at Köhler, designing solid-state energy meters that shipped over a million units, along with the Delphi and MS SQL calibration and production systems behind them. That background goes deep: DLMS/COSEM, IEC and CENELEC MID standards, RTOS work, EMC, signal processing, and test-driven embedded C/C++.

More recently I went back to university for a Master's in Electrical & Electronics Engineering at Boğaziçi, focused on machine learning: behavioral biometrics, anomaly detection, and Siamese networks. That work led to two published papers (ICISSP 2025 and IEEE SIU 2024). I also hold an Executive MBA from Boğaziçi, a bachelor's in Electronics Engineering from Erciyes University, and a PRINCE2 certification.

This blog is where these interests meet: embedded Linux and Yocto, electronics and KiCad, native development with Pascal/Lazarus and Delphi, Linux and self-hosting, mathematics, and practical AI. Notes, projects, and the occasional longer write-up on the tools and ideas I find interesting.
